Join us online Oct. 8-9, 2022 for the 2022 Annual Meeting of North American Hand Papermakers!

The substance of paper alone has the potential to supplement an idea or contribute to the concept or meaning of a work of art rather than abiding as a quiescent substrate for one’s writing or images. Papermaking is an alchemical process through which materials relinquish their original states of being to be transmuted into sheets of handmade paper. It is only when paper exists in this ostensibly fixed state that its maker is presented with a choice to either maintain or neglect that which tethers it—whether physical or figurative—to the past and its intransigent, material integrity.

Papermakers may endow handmade paper with an added layer of value by indicating the raw materials whence the paper was made. Plant fibers sourced from specific locations; machine-made paper; old drawings, prints, book pages, and letters; uniforms; tablecloths; flags; and currency are some examples of materials that have been used to create a physical connection to place or to recycle objects with which memories, stories, and experiences are associated into handmade paper.

The conference registration fee for this 2-day conference is based on a sliding scale. The standard registration fee is $70. One of our primary goals is to make the world of hand papermaking more accessible to all people, so we are also offering a Student registration fee option of $35 and a Financial Hardship registration fee option of $50. However, as a non-profit, North American Hand Papermakers relies on registration fees and membership dues to provide quality programming and resources to the hand papermaking community. To ensure that we can continue to provide our community with our services, there is also a Caring registration option of $100 for those that are able to pay more than the standard registration fee, as well as an option to add an additional donation amount of your choice.

If you cannot attend the conference live but would like access to the video recordings, you must registered for the conference BEFORE the end of the conference (October 9th, 2022) and the video recordings will be sent via email to you automatically, as soon as they are available. Thank you!

Please Note: Your registration for the conference is not confirmed until you pay. After registering, click the "Settle" button (usually displayed after registering), or when you  check your Profile page, select Invoices. Clicking "Settle" will take you to our payments site to pay. We now use Wild Apricot Payments (a.k.a. Affinipay) for payments. You can also print an invoice from that same page and mail a check. (Your registration may also be delayed if your membership is not current.)

If you have questions about your membership or registration status please write to Executive Director Paul Romaine at nahandpapermakers@gmail.com
